5 Foods to Help Alleviate Irritated Skin
When I first started my journey into healthy eating I felt like there were a million foods to eliminate, but I want to talk to you about some foods that we can add in to help calm irritated skin! We always want to be thinking about what we can do to provide for our bodies, rather than what we can do to deprive it. Some common nutrients we typically think about when we want to support skin health are vitamin c, zinc, collagen and biotin, but skin repair goes a lot deeper than just taking a supplement. It’s important to support it with nutrients daily to help balance out other aspects of your health that attribute to your skin appearance such as digestion, detoxification pathways and hormones! Your skin is a direct reflection of what is going on internally. With all that said, here is some foods that you can eat to help support your irritated skin and get it to repair more quickly!
Bone Broth
Bone broth is one of my absolute go-to foods whenever I feel like I’m hitting a rut. It is packed with multiple nutrients such as magnesium, sulphur, silicon, potassium, calcium and phosporus! It also contains amino acids which help to build up and repair the skin. On top of this bone broth also contains gelatin, which is really soothing to both the skin and gut lining!
Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are such an easy way to add anti-inflammatory nutrients such as zinc, carotenoids and vitamin e to your diet! These nutrients are necessary for your skin to heal and also to prevent more inflammation within the body that may prevent you from healing.
Cruciferous Vegetables
Some examples of cruciferous veggies are broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and brussel sprouts! These specifc type of vegetables contain phytonutrients that help the body to detox which is super important when trying to get rid of inflammation, an excess of hormones and other things that may cause skin irritation that will continue to prevent repair.
Sprouts
Sprouts are essentially a superfood because they’re so packed with nutrients. They provide b-vitamins, amino acids and more that support skin structure and repair! They also contain certain nutrients that help to stimulate detoxification and skin cell formation!
Papaya
Papaya has honestly become a staple in my diet! It contains an enzyme called papain that helps to to decrease inflammation internally to help relieve some of the stress placed on the immune system that may be contributing to inflamed skin!
